    Default Parachute flies

Anyone have any tips for tying off the hackle on a parachute pattern? When I tie them they are nice right up until I tie off and then the hackle gets bunched up.I did a search on FAOL but didn't turn up any enlightening answers.

    Thanks

So you tie the hackle off on the hook and not on the post. Thanks mcsteff

I didn't say that. . AC's instruction got me to do it well that way. Since then, I have learned to tie it off on the post and like that way better. They both work and the fish are none the wiser; I can get skunked either way.

Ed is it bunched up as in wrapped up in the thread or has the hackle gotten slack and bunched up ?.I had a problem keeping constant tension on the hackle till i bought a the rotary hackle pliers.

I'm not sure that I understand your question, but here are a couple of things to keep in mind. Wrap your hackle counterclockwise always. This way when you are tying it off the thread wraps have the effect of tightening the hackle rather than loosening it. Don't be afraid to grab onto the hackle and pull the post and hackle backwards out of the way when tying it off to prevent trapping fibers in the thread. This may make the hackle look bad, but a few seconds work with your fingers will straighten it right back out. And lastly, don't crowd the eye.
