Angry To those who send me flyfishing spam...

To anyone who sends me commerical flyfishing emails, of any sort, from product plugs to weekly updates on fishing in their area so I will hire them as a guide, to magazines and websites...

You get marked as spam and blocked.

My email is for personal communications only. I consider unsolicited commercial email to be an invasion of my privacy and rude. If I want to do business with you, *I* will find *you* and not the other way around. Sending me spam absolutely guarantees that I will not do business with you nor will I ever recommend you to others.

Thus ends the entry of USAOnTheFly into my universe.

Thanks to the site administrators for making it as difficult as possible for email addys to be stripped off the site. A plague upon your hard drives to those who do the stripping. (I really am complimenting LF and Ron, or at least trying to)

DG...I've been perusing the User CP...there is a section on email options....perhaps you have enabled your emails to be visible.

YOU have to uncheck the "allow vcard download" box in the "edit options" of your user control panel to not get emails from outside sources.

below that you can uncheck the "receive email from other members" box

i dont think its the site managements fault

Oh no, I think Ron and LF do a great job here, and incidents like this are very uncommon, compared to other places. No problem at all with them, and apologies if that is how it sounded (minor edits to the original post above to remedy that).

My email addy is not in my profile (other than the access info that the site keeps to log me in), as far as I can remember and tell from looking at it. I try to keep that out of profiles, but I know I put it in a thread on occasion when someone needs to contact me.

Spam just annoys the H out of me.

I automatically delete and mark as spam any unsolicited email I get.

All you have to do with spam and unwanted email is to delete it. What's the problem?

Steve, it takes time (admittedly a small amount for each instance, but cumulatively...) to determine if the email is spam, and then delete it, and then block it. I only have a finite amount of time in this world, and hate to waste it on stuff like that.

The internet has incredible potential, and it gets wasted on junk mail and porn.

We need some enforcement of the laws in place: http://www.spamlaws.com/

As a network administrator, I got TONS of spam on a daily basis. We are talking hundreds of messages. I finally got the spam filters tweaked to the point that I was only getting around 20 unwanted messages a day. Any tighter and I started losing messages from customers that we wanted to get.

I find myself on new lists all the time. Unfortunately, about all you can do is keep playing with the filters and unsubscribing from the ones you can.

Better enforcement? Many of these spam factories are offshore and can't be touched.
