Update to .....Oops no license
Went before the judge.
He asked if I had obtained a fishing license. I said yes. He said to show it to the game warden who was there. I did. Game warden said everything looked in order and the judge said: You are done, you can go now.
Got by with the cost of a license and not the $264.00 fine!!
Good fishing technique trumps all.....wish I had it.
Well, then! Time to go fishing!

Crazy thing Tennessee does. Good from March 1-Feb28th.
Oh well, I should have bought one this year anyway. Not really out anything.

I went in to a local fly fishing shop to buy my '10 license a couple weeks ago. The fellow explained that if I had an annual license at that time, it would not expire until 2-28-10. Sure enough, Montana is on a similar rotation.
Utah has the best of the few variations that I've run into here in the West - 365 days from date of purchase. I guess you would make that 366 days in Leap Years.

If I remember correctly, Ohio was on the March 1st rotation as well. They do that for their boats as well.
Wyoming is nice and easy. January 1st to December 31st.

Whew! That was close, lucky the Judge was a fisherman. ( just a guess )
Up here in BC its March 1st to Feb 28/29. Some years they didn't have the licenses available by March 1st so you can actually fish free for a while til they finally came out.
I get a break now that I've reached 65 with a $5.00 fee instead of $40.00

I am not sure when the 2010 lic. go on sale, but, if you purchase them before the 28th, DO NOT throw your present lic. away because you will not have a lic. when you are checked. Your new lic. are no good until Mar. 1, 2010 and your old lic. cover you until Feb. 28th. I know of several people who threw their old lic. away thinking the new ones would be good and they were written up for fishing without a lic. The young clerk at the store where they purchased their new lic. never told them that they should keep their old ones until Mar. 1st.

Fly fishing and fly tying are two things that I do, and when I am doing them, they are the only 2 things I think about. They clear my mind.

Colorado goes from 1 April to the end of March now. This makes life easier on those of us who get a small game license as a combo, since the small game seasons tend to be mid-winter. Prior to this, to hunt one season, you had to buy two years worth of licenses.
I kind of like the 365 days thing, in this day and age where everything is computerized anyway. Then again, Colorado licenses have the year printed on them in BIG numbers so you can tell one year's license from another.
PS, Colorado fishing without a license will run you from about $70.50 (if the DOW guy gets you) to $75 if the FS guy gets you to, theoretically, 6 months and 5000 dollars if the judge doesn't like you very much! And points against your hunting and fishing privileges in more than half the states.

Texas Licenses run Sept. 1 thru Aug 51. However, a couple of years ago, the added a Year-to-date option. I buy mine in January, now, since I do the majority of my fishing between then and June.
Before I was paying full price for a half year's worth of fishing. Now, I just have to keep up with when it expires.
