I repair high end gun stocks regularly... some are ridiculously high end... and there is no nightmare in wood to match hyper-critical repairs with a little silicone oil on it. All car waxes have the stuff (AFAIK) and it is horrible and serves no purpose for something only occasionally in the sun. Rod repairs with silicone would be easier because a wipe-down with strong solvents is possible, but I still avoid the stuff, everywhere.

And that is why my brown truck looks gray, My dark blue excursion looks brown, and my blue van just looks dirty because it lives in a rain forest.
