Thread: John Channer has passed away

Default John Channer has passed away

It is with a heavy heart I would like to inform everyone of the passing last night (Thunsday) of John Channer. I found a posting on the bamboo board stating he suffered a heart attack while helping his neighbor try to get his stuck car out of the snow. I know many of us own a rod he has built for us and even more of us enjoyed his input as a regular in the chat room. God bless my friend.

A true craftsman has gone on to greater rewards. VEE and I each have one of John's fine fishing tools. They are beautiful to look at, wonderful to cast and a thrill to take a fish on. John was a fine human being and will be missed.

I never met John but I know he was a friend to many. Truly a loss to the bamboo community. May the Lord embrace you eternally.

What a bummer! I was at the 1st day of Somerset Fly Show today and one of the builders told me this, to my utter shock. John was a great contributor and the 2 Channers I have are among my favorites. I've enabled several buddies into Channers, and they are all very pleased with his wonderful work and designs. I was looking forward to wetting a line with him in Durango this summer when I will be cruising CO with Tom Bender.

Life is never certain. My thoughts are with his wife and daughter.

Did not have the pleasure or honor of meeting the man but his family is in our prayers.

A great guy and craftsman, witty and interesting to be around. I fished with him a few times and own 3 rods he made for me. I'll miss him.

After seeing no information on this in the Durango paper, I had my sister look into it. John has been cremated and there is a private ceremony, no details. She suggested that Duranglers (970) 385-4081 might have the information on the ceremony.
