Thread: Orvis Nippers?

  1. #1

    Default Orvis Nippers?

Anyone have a pair of their standard nippers that can attest to their quality?

I have owned a few no names that I picked up on discount. They work for a year or so and then they crap out. Looking for something that will last, remain sharp and are strong.

I had the fishpond kind but didn't like their bulkiness.

Anyone have comments on the Orvis or a recommendation on another kind?

    Thanks, Silver Badger

I've had a pair or orvis nippers for years now and they're still sharp.

I like the Orvis nippers... I've owned numerous sets and have decorated the beds of some of the finest trout streams in the world with them... but I go buy another pair every time I lose a set.

The Orvis nippers I have are sharp. I bought a pair of no-name nippers out of a jar by the flyshop register. They wouldn't cut anything. Then I bought a pair of brand name (can't remember the brand) that had a folding nail knot thing on them. They were worse, so I went back to the Orvis.

Thanks for the info. Just what I wanted to hear.

I had two no name brands that were junk, recently went to a nail clipper, but I hate having the clipper handle sticking out (has a habit of grabbing my line and getting tangled).

Ordering one tomorrow. Thanks again. -Chad

I've been using the Orvis ceramic ones for about 2 years. A bit pricy for nippers, but they make a good gift (hint). Dealer said they hold an edge much longer; so far so good. I like them because they're so light weight.
