    Default Tiger Eye Blanks???

I am curious if anyone can recommend the best place to get these blanks at the best price. I am interested in getting one for my first build. Also has anyone got anything to say about these blanks (tips, hints, suggestions).

I'll second Joe's suggestion. Steve of Midwest Custom Fly Rods can help you out. He's a really good guy and, this being your first build, will certainly point you in the right direction.

Go to this link at this site for more info:

Or go to the link Joe gave you:

I bought one from Schneiders. Great selection of sizes and fast turn around on order. The Tiger Eye is probably one of the best looking blanks out there.

I, too, have used Schneiders for the half dozen, or more, Tiger Eye blanks I've bought. Super, super people ... great service.

    raiderhunter -

Another "thumbs up" for Schneider, but also a pat on the back for Steve at Midwest Custom Fly Rods.

As far as the blanks go - they are beautiful, especially in bright sunlight, they seem to be very well made and are finished quite nicely, and they tend to be on the fast side. Steve, and the late Ed Temme, are / were big fans of the Tiger Eye. That says a lot about the blanks.

One word of caution. They may not be rated ( line weight designation ) quite right. I built a 6' for 2/3 which was fine with a DT3F line, but really came to life with a DT4F line. If you didn't know the light weight designation from the manufacturer and just tried to figure it out by casting different lines, you would likely conclude it was a 4 wt. Seems like I have heard the same kind of thing from others.

I would use Steve at midwest custom rods as well. You have chosen in my opinion only one of the best blanks to do a build on. I have built over 50 TE's on fly and spinning blanks. Excellent color in the full sun and on the fly rods never had one cast so easy and preform so well.

Any color looks good on the Tiger Eye. My preference runs toward the earthy colors. Green, Rust, Browns, Copper.
