Default For JS, SF, MT, JH, or my 2010 fishing report..

Got out fishing today with my friend, Andy, and the three amigo's
    Fischer, Thor, and Bruno..

I have no idea what type he is but he is (was) a nice size.

    Somebody's oopsssss

that last step is a doosy

Andy's first winter fly fishing fish, he also caught his second a nice CutBow. Of course the inspectors had to check it out.Fischer was out collecting Firewood again

My two fish of the day

No flowers to take pictures of so this will have to do!

Note: that is the way I like to handle fish in the winter, Don't take them out of the water any more then to get the hook out, not on rocks, logs, ice shelves etc.. I don't think I have seen bad fishing handling on this BB.
I will be posting this on other BBs that I have seen this happen, not a good way to treat the resource..

It sure does resemble the head of a snake fish but I don't think they can sustain that cold of a temperature. Very nice photos.

    Thumbs up

    Ray -

That is some gnarly thing. Wonder how ugly it was when it was ALIVE ??

Great pics of the doggies and the fishies. Open water with trouts that eat flies in January in Alberta !! Nicely done.

Yeah - I checked, best I could, and concluded that that was not a PSC playing with your fishies. But thanks for the thought.

That first one looks like it needs to put on condition! Nice looking catches through the ice.

Great to see you are getting out and even better catching fish even in the ice.
    All the best.

    Hay Guys..

This was not through the ice as in "ICE FISHING" this is wide open water in January.... 30- 40ft casts with heavy flies, Slumpbusters, baitfish,
whooly buggers.. etc, did see 3 raisers at 0800AM but not enough to switch to emerges or gnats.

Love your C&R technique. I prefur they shake themselves off the hook right at my feet and zip away.

The pics some post on here, fingers through the gill plate, blood running down the fish's sides, or clubbed over the head in the bottom of a boat realy turn me off.

    Hi flyfishfairwx,

"Through the ice" was a poor choice of words on my part. Do you find streamers are the most productive patterns for the winter fish? I would think most insect activity would be nil, apart from midges. Any luck with things like Butchers, or Alexandrias?
