Going from Squalid Stone to Skwala Stone the old fashioned way.

Been tinkering with the prototype. Several things have not worked, but this evening I got a bit closer to what I'm looking for. Went to "mini" size Montana Fly Company centipede legs for the antennae and tails. Stayed with the "small" size MFC centipede legs for the legs.

Finally got the "mini" tail material incorporated into the FEB in a way that seems more realistic. I need to experiment with one more refinement to see if it will further improve the position of the tails. Also changed the wing by adding a sparse MFC white Widow's Web overwing over the deer hair.

Decided to take a look at what it looks like in the water. Interesting. ( I dunked the fly several times before taking this pic - when dried by false casting, it will ride higher than this. )

Still need to work out the best color combinations. Getting closer.
