Thread: The Challenger

    Default The Challenger

Twenty years ago today America lost a group of brave astronauts and heros when the shuttle Challenger was lost upon lift-off. I was thinking of the crew of the Challenger this morning when I sat down at the vise and decided to tie a fly in honor of those brave souls. May God bless them and their loved ones. America and indeed the world is better because of them and their sacrifice.

    Hey there flytackle,
Artistically and thoughtfully done. Thanks for the reminder of that tragedy. We will all in our own way honor those astronauts but your way is notable.

That is a great looking fly and a great way to remember the crew and the families.

    Alec,
My deepest heart felt thanks. What a wonderful thing you have done. As an Army aviator the lose of Challenger and Columbia hit me really hard. These gallant men and women were and still are my fellow aviators. Every time I read the poem "High Flight" I think of the crews of Apolo 1, Challenger and Columbia. I watched the Nationl Geographic Channel show about Challenger the other night. It made me both sad and angry. There was no need to loose any of these men and women.

Alec-I like your tribute fly! Boy do I remember that tragic flight. I had just started working at the company who's payload was onboard. I was in total shock when it went down. My co-workers were praying that it had not been our payload's large, volatile fuel tanks that had somehow taken her down.

It is an event to remember and learn from.

    Thanks,
    Rich
