Default Atlanta, GA Feb. trout fishing?

    Hi Guys,
I'm going to have two or three days to fish in and around Atlanta next month and was wondering if anyone has any experience fishing in the winter down there? I know there's limited water open at that time of year and I am planning to do a day with a guide on some private water.
    thanks,
    Zach

I would suggest calling The FishHawk in Atlanta. They are a great group of people who helped me when i started tying. JMO

If you are going to be in the Atlanta area - fish the Delayed Harvest section of the Chattahoochee River

You might want to drive up to Helen, Ga., and check in with Jimmy Harris at Unicoi Outfitters. They have excellent guides and the rights on several miles of private streams. Good people.

    Mike,

They are running the generators at the dam 24/7 lately, is the delayed harvest section fishable when they are doing that?

I agree with Steve, I met Jimmy Harris last fall, he is a really nice man and was a big help. They have a website, I don't have the address bookmarked just google "Unicoi Outfitters"

Another option is Callaway Gardens south of Atlanta. They stock some of their lakes with large trout in the winter. I think this is a float tube experience. It's a little pricey for me but Callaway runs a good operation.

This will give you state regulation and info on year around streams for trout. I think you can buy your license on line probably pick the dates and have them before you come down if you like. I download the file and make several copies as well as keep a copy on my computer. http://www.georgiawildlife.com/node/1307

use this link to check on the DH water

    http://waterdata.usgs.gov/ga/nwis/uv...te_no=02335990

4 feet or less is perfect, 5 is okay, otherwise drive to Helen up to Unicoi State Park and fish Smith's Creek DH - check in at the Unicoi Lodge for a free fishing permit (Required)
