    Default mcfly foam glo bug

Anyone ever use mcfly foam for a glo bug? I tried tying them using glo bug yarn but they always came out loose and wouldn't hold their shape. I picked up some mcfly foam this weekend to make one last try at tying a glo bug and this stuff works great. I used a 4" piece, doubled it over twice and tied it with 3 wraps, then 3-4 wraps around the base of the foam and whip finish. Makes a tight, round egg with no gap on the bottom of the hook.

If you use the search function, you should find a large number of threads on glo bugs and mcfly foam in the BB archives.

I still use the glo bug yarn, works best for me. Once you get the hang of tying with it, it is simple and easy. And glo bugs do not have to be round, firm, or even remotely attractive to catch fish, although I try to make all of mine as round as I can.

I've found McFly Foam easier to work with than Glo Bug Yarn.

I've heard (haven't used it) that Egg Foo Yarn is even better.

I use McFly Foam for all my egg patterns (Early Girl). It's a joy to work with as long as you use a good solid thread that you can really torque.

The trick to McFly foam eggs is to stretch it straight up, then cut it. Here's Charlie Craven tying a half dozen.

For me the trick is to use sharp scissors. I too stretch it straight up, but I give it a quarter twist aswell.

I think he looked in mine as well. But it's true. When fish are on eggs, and you have none, try an orange/other color scud.

I put the Mc Fly Foam in pen tubes. It works great. Pull a little out, tie it on, pull a little more out and cut. Just make sure you pull a little out before you cut or you'll loose it in the pen.
