I used to get that until I started telling them that as a Senior System's Engineer I charge anywhere from $65.00 per hour and up depending on the issue and size of the network. After which I usually get a blank stare of disbelief.

I will do that with folks other than family and friends. Most friends don't ask and family does try to keep it to a minimum. I managed to teach them where and how to look for their own answers first.
