    Default Reading a Lake

Thanks Mike for the article on the reading lakes. Lots of good info.
One more addition I use is reading a lake is looking for color change in the water to find out where shelves and sunken islands may lay. There is a definate color change between shallow water and deep water that can be very helpful. Depending on the direction of the insect migration or where fish are hunkering down you can decide where to troll or anchor boat and cast for best advantage.

Good observation. Mid-lake weed beds will also give this color change. In the pothole lakes around Edmonton, the water is somewhat turbid making it a little harder to see these changes but in clearer waters (like the mountain lakes) one can see color change from many under water structures. Honestly, this is something I've taken for granted. Come spring, I?ll make a point to watch for color change closely and see what structures I can find that way.

    Cheers,
