Check out the Yamahas from the 1960s. Their sound has typically improved with time, they are well built, and you'll find some real bargains on e-Bay, etc. (Under $200 is easy.) I own three - a FG-160, FG-160e, and a 12 string, Two of my sons have also bought them cuz they liked the sound and action of mine.

I have an Applause made by Ovation that I bought when they first came out about 25 years ago. It has the Ovation sound without the Ovation cost. They are very reasonable running $150-$200 online, but I would recommend going to your local guitar store and plink plunking one. I was sold on the tone 25 years ago and still love the guitar.

Yes! It also has that unmistakable Ovation sound. I do not play well, and can't hear to tell if it's in tune or not, (that's what electronic tuners are for!) but I do enjoy it. And the Bride still gets twitterpated when I plink out "Love Me Tender"

That is the wrong price as right now Guitar Center has them for $149.99. That is the guitar with stater kit. The Yamahas in the entry level category are about $199 and really do not have any better sound nor construction.

You should use their store locator to see if they have a store near you. They may have some really nice used gear for a reasonable price too. Just happened that by the time they set me up with a used one I could get the new Epiphone for a few dollars more.
