The only possibility for any trout fishing in my part of the world right now is in the warm water winter stocking rivers. All of our tailwaters will wash a wader down stream in a heartbeat.
So, I hit the Stones River today to get a little action of the fresh stocked rainbows. Had a great time. All of the fish I caught (and released) were 10 1/2" to 12" and of good quality. They came fresh from the Flintville, TN Hatchery early this morning.
I had my rod already rigged with a chartruese wooly bugger and a brown soft hackle from my last trip down to the Elk, so that's what I used. It amazes me that these fish have probably only eaten pellets all of their life, but through instinct or something, went after my flies with gusto.
It was great to get out after two weeks of no fishing.
That's what's happening in my neck of the woods.
