Fast forward a few years and now I am a manager in the restaurant business. I know we have equipment that must be stored and preserved. Big chains never throw out any gear.

You were correct in thinking about the silicone but with a big requirement. It must state that it is "Food Grade" or safe fro human consumption on it. Food Safe is the smart way to go. Be certain to closely follow the directions on the product. Mineral Oil will work too but it doesn't have the long term preserving power of the dedicated food grade lubricants. Any food distributor in your area should carry the products but you can just order them online too.

Some types of silicone can be toxic so only use the stuff that says food grade or food safe on the label.
Thanks Nighthawk, BINGO! Now thats what I was looking for exactly.
