Thread: Fishing/living in Pennsylvania

The Pine Creek Valley is, of course, my back yard and there are a good number of wild trout streams in the area. Another option would be the "limestone corridor" which includes Penns, Elk, Fishing, Spring Creek and Logan Branch. These are located in the central part of the state.

Personally, I would prefer to fish wild trout streams, for the most part. The Cumberland Valley streams, with an exception or so, are stocked streams. Just my $.02. Too, I don't consider my voice strong in the process since I seldom post here, mostly lurk.

I love the Pine Creek Valley and am familiar with the area. My thought on the CV area were based on the better accomidations available. Petticite Junction is a great camp ground but no real hotels motels untill you get to Wellsboro. Also we have a couple of good flyshops here in Carlisle that might get involved. I will go anywhere that the group agrees upon if we decide to move forward.

Wow. I cannot believe the responses here. I too am interested in getting together. I just hope I can get off from work to go. (I work in maintenance and work most weekends...)

My suggestion would be somewhere in the Poconos.

It would be reasonable from the central part of the state and the Jersey & NY guys could make it easily too. Also you have a mix of water types and plenty of options for places to stay and places to fish not to mention plenty of diversions for any non fishing partners/kids, etc. The Brodhead alone could easily handle all attendees at one time.

As much as I love South Central PA, more than a few anglers on the Letort, Falling Springs and the like is a disaster. The same goes for places like Slate Run, & Cedar Run in the Pine Creek Valley. While the Lehigh Valley would be another option; most of the streams get crowded already and are tough to enjoy with more than a few anglers per stretch.

I'm in Ligonier, Pa and spend a good bit of time on the Yough, Stoney Creek River, and any of various native streams in the Laurel Highlands.

Bamboozle.....Pine Creek Valley is PLENTY big for a whole herd of fisherman. Sure, the little tribs are easily overloaed, but as there's about a zillion of them, all with wild fish, it's not so bad. And keep in mind, it's a Pa thing. Outsiders are certainly welcome, but locating it to accomodate them seems to dilute the original concept.
    Just a thought....

I believe there are other places to stay closer to Petticoat Junction than Wellsboro.

Is the old Cedar Run Hotel still in business? I've stayed there, but it's been years ago.

I don't know how many rooms there are, but there's also places to stay at Slate Run and Blackwell that aren't too far away.

LigonierA1, I agree. Easily within the reach of Waterville or the Black Forest area you have Kettle, Young Womans, Big Pine, Little Pine, Naval Run, Cedar Run and many more... The entire area has many fishing, camping, hiking, biking, and hunting opportunities. Lots of places to stay, eat, fish, and relax....

If you are interested, type a search on Wellsboro, Slate Run, Pennsylvania State Parks, etc. You will find a ton of info to check out.
