I want to put a wood downlocking reelseat with slidebands on a fly rod, but I'm a bit concerned that the reel will slide off the reel seat. Are there any ways to prevent this, or are there no reasons to be worried about it?

I have them on 5w rods and down. I haven't had any problems with reels coming off at all. Most of the seats are wood and I have a couple seats that are cork. I happen to like that style and they work for me. Hardy, Orvis CFO's, Lamson, JW Youngs, C. Farlows all fit.
OK. Thanks.
You might also consider a reel seat with a swollen butt. Kind of like this one;

Sorry. I've been a little more warped than usual lately, but I was thinking at the time that there were probably more fishermen with swollen butts than rods.
