Thanks for the information! I agree that there are much easier flies to to tie, and much better suggestive patterns that might even have a better history of catching fish. I just have so much confidence in this stupid pattern for some reason. When I tie one on, I just "know" that something is hitting it.

I looked up and I do like the looks of the Brooks stoneflies, as well as a rubber legged big ugly. I will add those to box and hopefully build up the same confidence as the Kaufmann's Stone. but there is something about those big oval bodies, and turkey backs, that just looks awesome, at least to me.

Another pattern that was suggested to me that looks really nice, is the Montana Nymph, and apparently killer for Steelhead.
