I have not ventured into fly tying yet. I'm still learning what I can about the fishing aspect of it. I do have a tying question though.
Are there any recipes that use (fish, snake or other reptile) scales?
Just curious,

Not that I'm immediately aware of, but don't let that slow you down. A friend of ours uses fish scales and fins in tying ultra realistic flies. No reason other scales and such can't be used as well.
Happiness is wading boots that never have a chance to dry out.
If you had the snake skin whole and not just the scales, especially if it was still in a tube-like shape instead of a slit down the belly I could see them being used for tube flies or any other fly that uses mylar tubing for the body of the fly. It could turn out cool but don't know how the skin would hold up in water.
I saw scales used for flashbacks but can't remember where or how it was tied in.
