Thread: Sage Xi series rods

    Default Sage Xi series rods

I'd appreciate any opinions about Sage Xi 2 and Xi 3 rods....and any others

My son has recently borrowed a Xi 2 and compared to an older Sage that I was using there was a significant difference. He's ready to commit to something but I think price is an issue. The 2's are going for about half price on ebay.

We'd be interested in the comparison and any other opinions.

We're talking steelhead and salmon here...rivers....personally I'd probably prefer a 10 footer for the mending advantage.....

very nice rods. i have the Xi 2 6 weight and 8 weight. no salmon here but use the 6 for large bass and the 8 on the coast for redfish. i love them both. with the Xi2 on sale its a steal in my book. i know there are people that think its crazy to spend that for a rod but i have never regretted it and i am on a tight budget. i have yet to find a fish that i could not turn with that rod. i wish i could tell you more... btw i have rods priced from 75.00 on up so it was not bought for the name.

I have an Xi2 8wt that I use for pike/muskies. It was bought non-factory as a blank and made up using Sage's blanks.

It's a fine tool indeed! If I ever break it it'll be replaced with another!

My friends both picked up the Xi2's when the Xi3's were introduced, they got them at 35% off and are one hell of a deal. The local fly shop owner who is now a saltwater only guy, has 8 -11 Xi2, and has had them for several years without a problem.

I got to borrow a friends, a they are some serious rods. Just light enough, some great strength for chucking the grain lines for salt. I really like how they have the power to fight a big fish, but a soft enough tip and mid section to not wear you completely out casting, and enough to protect the tippets.

If I had the cash I would have jumped on one.
