Default Found this locally if anyone is interested....

So I'm not much for vintage fly gear but this seems like it might hold more value to some of the folks on here than the gear is being sold for. This is NOT my item, I'm just passing along the link in case anyone is interested.

    Cheers,

    Brad

*decided to take the link down just in case somebody actually saw this and got hosed buying it. Yeesh...

I don't know what the herter reel may be valued at, but I've seen the rod valued under $30.00. These were mass produced in Japan and really do not cast very well. It is my understanding that more recent rods from Japan may be much better casting tools.
Just a heads up for anyone who may be considering this rod.

fair enough....I know nothing about this set and have no affiliation with the seller, nor does the seller know I posted it here. I figured there was a 50/50 chance it was a really good deal or a sub-par deal do I figured I'd share. Thanks for the info, Yaffle.

The rod looks similar to what they sold at the local dollar store for either $3 or $7 when I was a kid and did not have $3 with no reel or line. The 1950's would be about the right time frame.

Brother in law was in the Navy in the Phillipines in the early 60's and got one of those. If memory is correct he paid $15 for it.

    Thumbs up

I like the effort everyone put in on this thread, Humber Brad for trying to help out with a good deal and the others for jumping in, it all reads like a conversation amongst friends who care, says alot about the kind of folks who share this site together.
