tcd - Just got in from a weekend of chasing Erie trib chrome - this rig was money for me.

6" of 25 lb Sunset Amnesia nail knotted (super glue on nail knot) to fly line, with a perfection loop at the end.

Leader:
- 4' of 25 lb Amnesia (perfection loop at end to attach loop to loop w/fly line)
- 2' of 15 lb Maxima Chameleon
- size 8 SPRO barrel swivel http://www.spro.com/ProductDetails.a...ode=SPSB%2DALL
- 2' of 2X fluorocarbon tippet
- 2' of 3X fluorocarbon tippet

I used Palomar knots to connect the Maxima and the fluoro to the swivel, and I left the fluoro tag end about 3" long, and tied an overhand knot at the end. I placed split shot on this tag end, and one 8" above the bottom fly.

For an indicator, Thingamabobbers work great, but these big strong fish can pull hard enough to wreck the little metal grommet on them, and then cut through your leader after awhile. In light of this, I used these, and they worked just fine.

7/8"

The use of the micro barrel swivel allows you to attach mono and fluorocarbon tippet without any knot slippage or cutting problems, and you don't even notice it in use.
You can leave the 2X tag end of the knot connecting the 2X and 3X about 4" long for a dropper fly.
