    Default My Weekend Trip

I had a great time up at the lake. Got skunked. But despite the windy conditions I feel I got some good practice in trying the various casts suggested to me on this forum. Thanks to all the suggestions.

I used various flies, one of which was a harewater pup, which got water logged. Learning experience, I did not know to waterproof it.

Can I get some suggestions on the various products used to remedy this?

    Thanks.

Cortland makes a gel that you lightly rub into a fly. Comes in a small little circle container. Don't use this stuff on an flies with CDC feathers though. I've used this and it works quite well.

I also like to keep Silicone dust for removing fish slime and for CDC flies.

Hi and welcome to Faol. What lake did you go to if you don't mind my asking.
I use Gink to float'em and xink to sink'em. There's lots of products available for floating dries and keeping dries floating. Frog's fanny works good on dries too. Jim

    Baybum79,

I do a lot of guided fishing trips and I pay attention to what the guides use and suggest, after all, they are the experts in my opinion.

For really big dry flies, many of my guides use a paste called Mucilin (either red or green), a product made in England but sold in many fly shops and catalog stores.

For the 'normal' sized dry flies my guides use a gel type product, either a Loon product called Aquel or the Gink product.

For really small dry flies the best thing to use is a powder, either a Loon product called Topride or anotehr good one is Frogs Fanny.

I own all of these products and use all of them. They all work great.
