I drive about a mile to the Farmington.
The closest is about 5 mins... North Umpqua River at a park close to the house but i seldom fish there...confluence of the North and South Umpqua is about 20 mins, a good spot on the main stem Umpqua for smallies, steel, salmon is about 25 mins, Steamboat on the North Fork is about an hour, South Fork Umpqua for killer smallie fishing is about 18 minutes or less depending on traffic.
Lmb bass lake is about 30 mins and if i want trout streams (year round) i only have to drive for a couple of hours for some good places. The ocean is an hour and 15 away and i'm getting close to trying that for the first time any day now.
Cheers,

Hmm,
When I'm in Auckalnd it's about 30 min (if traffic is good) to the Wairoa, 1 hour to the Ohinemuri, 2 hours to the Waihou, and 2.5 hours to Rotorua Lakes area where there are quite a few lakes and rivers with pretty big fish. I quite like the Ngongataha and the Waiteti streams. A bit further on is the Rangitaiki, which is great for camping.
Here in Nova Scotia, from my parent's place, it's about 3 minutes to the East River, and within 30 minutes there are about 3 different fishing areas that cover river, brook, and small wilderness streams.
In both places there are more areas available (not counting salt water bait fishing) but the above cover where I've spent most of my fishing time. Plan on expanding and fishing some new places within those ranges a bit when I get back to NZ.

If it swims and eats, it'll eat a fly.
Trout, Steelhead, American Shad & Black Bass in our local lakes and rivers, range from about five to forty five minutes by Mountain Bike, by car it's actually about the same, so I opt to ride most days.
The Sierra's, well under an hour by car.
Best, Dave
