This actually happened to me. I was about a mile from work and managed to get there, but then had no tools to speak of to get the thing unwrapped. At lunch, a couple of us went (in his car) and bought some small bolt cutters and a pair of heavy side cutters and managed to free the drive shaft. We also bought a hacksaw to cut the tail pipe off that had got wrapped up in the mess.

On the plus side, it gave me an excuse to put a dual exhaust kit on the Ranger.
