Here's a tangent to the discussion. In the corner of my garage, I keep a fly rod strung up with monofilament which is, of course, practically weightless. When my casting stroke goes awry, I take that rod to the front lawn and practice making nice, tight, perfectly parabolic loops in the mono. Of course, we're not talking distance here, but form. If you can't cast a loop in the mono, you're probably not doing it right. Cast (bend) the tip of the rod until you can. It works wonders when you put a real fly line on it.
