Instead of heavy mono, I use a short section of a zip tie, lashed to the hook shank, extending about 1" past the bend (easily adjustable depending in the length of the fly) to keep the tail from fouling. These are pretty small zip ties, about 4" long and 2 mm wide. Work great, easier for me than the heavy mono since they lie flat on the hook shank. Sorry, no pics, but this is pretty self explanitory.
