Homegrown Hackle and the Farmyard Darter

Larry Bordas finds a forgotten pattern and ties one up with locally available raw materials.

Great article. The materials are very similar to a popular New Zealand pattern as well, called Jack's Sprat. The differences are just add a short tail of red hackle fibres, and you tie the wing in Matuka style and rib it with silver wire. I'll be adding a few tied this way to my box as well.

    Smile Thank You!

    Thank you, Larry!

For great article, about lost, (but now) not forgotten fly pattern, and the name of the person who originally dressed the hook pattern.

It is a simple pattern, that more beginners and intermediates, should be able to be successful at dressing.

I know that is will be effective when fished, either on streams or open water.
