    Post Vince Cummings Custom Fly Rod - $900

    Vince Cummings Custom Graphite Fly Rod. "MINT CONDITION" ROD HAS NEVER BEEN USED.
    Rod is marked as follows: Vince Cummings Custom. V.C.Graphite, FL - 5854 Line Wt. 7or8 8 1/2. This is a 4 piece unit with an aluminum case. I've had this in a safe for approx 30 years. Photos available. $900. Price reduction: $500.00 inc shipping. Note:I was informed by a so-called-expert to post the $900 price. I'm looking to sell, period, not bargain. As a life-long sportsman, I believe that if you want something special, you'll go for it!
    Also have vintage lures/flies.

    I did not know rods were made of graphite 30 years ago. Is this true?

    This article is from 1972 and may be of interest.

    No man can have too many fly rods;
    no woman too many shoes.

    Early graphite rods date from the mid 1970s - Fenwick, Orvis, Thomas and Thomas, among others, all were selling them by 1979.

    While I can not say what this rod is ultimately worth, Vince Cummings was an acknowledged master rod builder who began with bamboo and fiberglass. His glass rods are highly coveted among collectors as are his graphite rods.

    While $900 may seem outrageous to some. Tom Morgan currently offers $1500 graphite rods and vintage Russ Peak fiberglass rods will set you back SEVERAL $1000.

    I met Vince 20 years ago in Cook's Falls NY; a very gracious, unassuming and soft-spoken man. Saw him several times in the years after and he alway wore khaki pants and khaki button-down long sleeve shirt no matter what the temperature was outside. The camp owner who knew for 30+ years told him he never saw him in any other attire.

    He made my dad a noodle rod 7' Royal Graphite. That rod is super sensitive and light as a feather. I knew it was pricey but I didn't think it was that much. Have you sold the fly rod yet? Good luck.

    Hi Bob, Yes, I still have the rod. I figured this website had people that knew what they wanted. You'll notice I lowered the price. Well, if I don't sell it here, I'll just raffle it off. Quite honestly, the proceeds are going to the American Cancer Society anyway.
    I first met Vince over 30 yrs ago. Vince had made 2 custom rods for my Uncle and I took the ride to his shop. While there, I let my compulsive side go-for-it. I bought this rod. Bottom-line, I never learned how to FlyFish and this rods been in one of my gun safes for over 30yrs. Basically, I've been a hunter & salt water fisherman 40+ years. I did however ride to his shop 3 more times with my Uncle. Hey Bob, keep the sportmans pride and enjoy natures bounty. The waters will always feed the family. Russ

    It's great what you're doing with the proceeds.
    I don't say it often, but God bless you.
