    Default Parnelli's Furled Leader Formula

    See that there are a few that make their own furled leaders, and many more that use furled leaders.

    This is my furled leader formula, that I came up with, using Dave Ulmer's "THE BIG LEADER FORMULA" as my guide.

    This is just a demonstration, of how the my formula works!

    This is just a demonstration, of how the my formula calculated!

    If you cannot understand the math, just send me, a specific loop sequence and length.

    I am willing to crunch the numbers, and give you the peg positions for your furled leader board.

    Total length (Tl ) =Total length of finished furled leader
    Total length peg (Tpeg) = Total length of furled leader layout.
    Total percent (Tper) = Total Percentage of furled leader segments.

    Length n (Ln) = Length of individual furled leader segment.
    Percentage n (Pn)= Percentage of individual furled leader segment, in relation to P1 (which is always 100% or 1.000)

    Loop sequence (two individual runs, Left/Right) = 6/5/4
    Thread count sequence (two individual runs) 12/10/8
    Thread Count (consolidate runs) 24/22/20/18/16

    P1 = 100% =1.000
    Pn = Previous segments Pn x taper percentage x correlation factor ( 1.000 x 0.55 x (24/22) =

    P1 = 1.000
    P1 = 1.000 x 0.55 x (24/22) = 1.000 x 0 .55 x 1.091 =0.600
    P2 = 0.600 x 0.55 x (22/20) = 0.600 x 0.55 x 1.100 =0.363
    P3 = 0.363 x 0.55 x (20/18 ) = 0.363 x 0.55 x 1.111 = 0.222
    P4 = 0.222 x 0.55 x (18/16) = 0.222 x 0.55 x 1.125 = 0.121
    Total percent =P1 + P2 + P3 + P4 +P5 =

    1.000
    0.600
    0.363
    0.222
    +0.121
    T percent = 2.306 = 230.6% of P1

    Total length of finished furled leader = 90 inches
    Total peg board layout = 90 inches + 9 inches = 99 inches

    Tpeg/ Tpercentage = Lpeg1/P1

    99 inches/2.306 = Lpeg1/1.00

    Lpeg 1 = (99 inches x 1.000)/2.306 = 42.931 inches

    L1 = 1.000 x 42.931 inches = 42.931 inches Peg left = 43 inches
    L2 = 0.600 x 42.931 inches = 25.759 inches Peg right = 69 inches
    L3 = 0.363 x 42.931 inches = 15.584 inches Peg left = 84 inches
    L4 = 0.222 x 42.931 inches = 9.531 inches Peg right = 91 inches
    L5 = 0.121 x 42.931 inches = 5.195 inches Peg l & r = 99 inches

    Twist each run until each individual twisted length, reaches 90 inches

    Then combine the two runs, and untwist, to created the furled leader.

    The untwisted furled leader will retain it finished 90 inche length.

    Use super glue (CA) on each end before releasing finished furled leader from the peg board.

    You end up with a furled leader of 90 inches length, with a uniform taper of 55% where each section is precisely 55% of the mass (weight) of the previous segment.

    You can change the taper up or down by 5%, but I find that 55%, gives the best casting results. Changing the taper will make the the weight to shift either toward the tip, or toward the butt of the furled leader, with furled leader segments still in porportional balance.

    Once you have setup your loop sequence, and calculated the segment percentages, you should save those numbers, for all new furled leaders, using the same loop sequence but at different lengths.

    This this formula is a variation of the old transmission signal antennas, used before transistors, and circuits boards, when radios and televisions had lots of tubes that could all blowup if there was feedback in the electrical circuits.
