    Default Another Bear Thread...

I know there have been MANY threads regarding bears in the past here. This one is a little less controversial and really just a crazy story.

I did find this very interesting as posted on the story from the Utah DWR:

    If a bear attacks
? Use bear spray. Then leave the area. Studies have shown bear spray to be 92 percent successful in deterring bear attacks.
? Shoot to kill. If you use a firearm, never fire a warning shot?aim for the center of the bear and keep firing until it is dead. Notify the Division of Wildlife Resources immediately.
? Always fight back. And never give up! People have successfully defended themselves with almost anything: rocks, sticks, backpacks, water bottles and even their hands and feet.

Wow! Talk about lucky. My bear spray never left my belt on my trip.

Hey Wild One, thanks for the post. I've had two bear incidents ,thankfully painless. The chap in the clip was a VERY lucky man. It's also good to hear that the bear was stopped by a 45 cal. weapon because , in addition to UDAP, that's what I will carry while fishing remote wilderness.
And also, yet another testament to the senseless ban on carrying weapons for self protection in National Parks. I intend to harm NOTHING that does not intend to harm me and will sensibly avoid all possible confrontations. I've heard enough of the "huggers" rational about trespassing on the bears territory and therefore "deserving" all eventualities including becoming their lunch.

    Mark

PS: I understand that the "ban" will be lifted in February 2010
