I'm planning to hit the beach this Saturday morning to try my new gear, probably Topanga Canyon Beach since it's very close home...I was wondering if there are any fly anglers near here who are willing to join me and pass some info on fishing the surf.

I'm guessing you haven't joined a local flyfishing club yet. A site I have used for CA stuff is www.fishsniffers.com It's a great site for us locals. Have fun on the coast.

Thanks Robert, I'll check out those websites. I've been wanting to go out and play but this cold has been really hard to shake off. Soon I will post pix from the surf.
