Tell your son he didn't get the award for doing his job that nigh tell him the award is for all the other nights he took the time to notice the lights and doors. His award was for noticing something out of place, being aware of his zone, patch et al. His award is for his peers to show them this is how you do it and sorry you had to be the example. He made everyone around him better and that is worthy of an award.
