    Exclamation Safety glasses?

I'm sure several of you have seen this, but a good reminder why you should wear some kind of glasses when fly fishing.

    WARNING: NOT for the squeamish!!!!

I could not watch it but this is a good reminder. I always wear glasses (because I have to) and it might have saved my eyes last Thursday. The wind suddenly picked up and blew the line down so during a few of my back casts the line and fly ended up in my face. The down-force from the wind was so strong it felt like I had considerably heavier line on (I was at first unaware why this was happening) and I barely could lift the line up off the water. The wind went from calm to winds to strong to fly fish in a few minutes. Although I am no master fly caster I am probably not a bad caster either the situation just took me by surprise. I seemed to be standing in a place where the wind was mostly blowing over my head so I was unaware how strong it really was. I consider myself lucky.

Saw one last year of some poor guy with a big salmon hook in his eye. Im talking about on of those all steel "Lure Jensen" style rigs that weigh in at about 1/2 to 3/4 an ounce.
I've have worn some form of safety glasses ever since.
I felt so sorry for that poor fella and dont want someone to have occaision to feel that bad for me.

The state said I have to wear glasses to drive but I was wearing them before that, it's simply a good idea. I wear a brimmed hat when fishing protects the old chrome dome and ears from the the sun and misdirected flies. I never was a fan of pierced ears in old men. But to each their own.

I had a now departed friend fishing on the TN river in the Muscle Shoals area when on the first cast of the day the trebles on a Big O went into the scalp of his tourney partner. OUCH!
