    Default Once-in-lifetime day

Had my best day ever fly fishing the surf. I've caught more snook in one day, but never the quality. I caught 15 snook, with six being more than 28 inches. Largest was 39 inches and an estimated 20 pounds.

In addition, I caught and released three redfish to 32 inches, a mangrove snapper, several jack crevalle and a blue runner.

The highlight of the day was the three monster tarpon I jumped. My 6-weight was virtually useless against these 125-pound-plus behomoths. One ran straight offshore and when I looked down at my spool, I had about two turns of backing left. I held the spool and broke the fish off instead of losing my fly line.

The 20-pound snook was my largest ever!

I took some photos with my cellphone. I'll post if they're any good.

I should say so! NICE! By the way, what fly did you say you were using?

hi Mike-no time for fishing--too busy starting up a new university, and my house in thuwal isn't ready yet. but when it is i have high hopes--before the Saudis built the university in thuwal, it was (and still is) a fishing village. lots of flats, and even some mangrove areas. ...and i hope to write a story or two once things settle down

    Thumbs up

Wow, what a day indeed. Good for you. We all dream of having days like this. That wide open bite is what keeps us casting on those sloooooow days. A 20lb Snook on any equipment is an outstanding catch. A 20lb Snook on fly is even more impressive.
