Question Fly Fishing near Bar Harbor, ME?

Hi, folks. I'm heading to Bar Harbor in about a week and will be there with friends who don't fish (yes, I realize my taste in friends is questionable). I'd like to do some fishing while I'm there if I can do so within, say, less than an hour away from Acadia Park. I won't have a boat either. So is it worth it to take along some fishing gear or should I suck it up and be a normal tourist with the rest of them? I've been in the area many times but it was a long time ago and I never paid attention to possible fishing. Any and all wisdom is welcome!

    Peace,
    Diane

On the south end of the main island in Bah Habba there is a clear running stream that dumps out into the ocean off Cadillac Mtn. (if memory serves) that is rumored to have brookies in it. If that is true, you won't have to travel far at all. I need to research this further. last time I was there was on my Honeymoon back in '92.

Did alittle searching with limited resuslts. here is a link though to a Flyfishing guide service on mount Desert island (bar harbor):

No affiliation with outfitter. Maybe they can help out more though. Enjoy your trip!

    Diane,

While trying to find a good spot for some fishing, make sure you locate a Lobster Pound. My daughter said the price for fresh lobster has skyrocketed to $7 a pound. That would make a 2 pounder, cooked, with drawn butter, corn on the cob, cole slaw, a dinner roll and a large glass of iced tea about $14.

Sorry I can't be of much help. I was last in Maine for my daughters high school graduation about 9 years ago. I was too busy to fish.

REE, I am staying within walking distance of a lobster pound and plan to become their best customer in the span of a few days. Last night I actually dreamed about lobster with drawn butter. I'll have one for you, too, buddy.

    Diane,

Thank you. VEE wants to know if you'll have on for her too? We'll be heading back that way (Bangor/Brewer) for my daughters wedding in April of 2010. There is a lobster pound visit and plenty of fried clalms on the agenda.

Hah....Hi Dave..... how's the fishin' over there

Last year, very few of our striped friends made it that far north.
This season may be better but I haven't heard
