    Default Lake Michigan area patterns???

A young tier I know recently contacted me for some ideas for patterns that could be fished in Lake Michigan and its tributaries. Lake trout and salmon would be the fish of interest. Any suggestions for a young tier (age 13) would be greatly appreciated.

For Salmon in Lake Michigan tributaries I usually only carry egg flies and some of Jack Gartside's soft hackle streamers in bright highly visible colors that let me follow the fly easily. I'll use enough split shot to get the flies down and put an egg fly 18'' to 36"" below that and then a #6 streamer 2' below that. since the fish are not actively feeding on anything there is no need to try match naturals with the streamer What time of year is he coming? Salmon won't be in the wadable portions of the rivers until September.
I can think of few acts more selfish than refusing a vaccination.
