Thread: Hooks by the hundreds...

    Default Hooks by the hundreds...

    Fly's by the dozen.

Just pondering while I was tying up a dozen.
I buy hooks in 50's or 100's. But everybody tye's by the dozen.
Is this like the hot dog thing where the wieners are sold in 10's and the buns by 8's?
Anybody got any history on this? Why a dozen fly's?

    (Just curious)

(Hey! We are limited to 10 images! Something stinkith to high heaven.)
    You can't post a dozen fly's!

it was origionaly planed out by a Regal user, 96 to tie on and 4 for your vice to send across the room and off to hook heaven.

    Thumbs down

Don't bother to count but your 100 packs of hooks could average 96. They pack by weight and guess which side of "exact" the count will be? (I've been there.)

My guess reason for tying a dozen:
So you could lose one per month...yeah right. Okay, okay, well maybe not.

Chance number two...It takes 12 attempts to finally tie the fly so that it looks like the picture.

Four is the number of hooks lost by cautious Regal users. Those who do not pay attention to detail and hook placement could have 96 hooks disappear into hook heaven and have only 4 hooks left to tie on. 8T

Wow, I must be really OCD about hook placement. I've popped exactly one hook in the last 18 years of using Regals.

Your supposed to buy 3 boxes for 25 dozen.

When fly fishing was first started you left before breakfast and stopped at the donut shop for a dozen donuts. The bakers diversified!
Thusly, flies by the dozen was born ....
Fortunately, for fisherman, in those days nobody was tying on a Regal!

    Well, I didn't, Norm.
But it seems most folks talk about tying up a dozen. And you can run acrossed sales for a dozen...
And then there is this where I bid on a lot of 48 fly's (4 dozen).
    So I was just pondering...
I know, and do occasionally just tye a few of this or that. And I tyed a single Royal Wollf that turned out more like a Royal woof it was so ugly.
    Just wondering...
