    Default Lake Michigan area question

A former student of mine has gotten into fly fishing and fly tying through our local ff club. He, in turn, has gotten his uncle interested in fly fishing. The uncle is going on a fishing trip to Michigan, and the youngster wants to tie up some flies for his to take along. He asked me for some ideas, but I haven't fished the area to know what to suggest for sure. The uncle will be fishing around Lake Michigan and tributaries, for lake trout and salmon. Any suggestions for some basic flies that he can tie up for his uncle? Thanks much for your help.

We need to know where in Michigan and when to give some ideas. Never heard of fishing lake trout with a fly although it's probably done by some one. Salmon run in the fall so I assume he is coming in the fall.
