I was curious how wrap the joining sections of your rod. Do you do it the same as if you were wrapping a guide foot?

Yes, but not too tight. And check with the manufacturer to see what they require to uphold the warranty. Some don't need ferrule wraps, and others need larger than you might expect.

I agree with ol blue. Only real difference is you don't have guide feet in the way and it is a pretty quick wrap and very easy.
My biggest problem is that I get over-enthusiastic, and pack my thread off the end of the rod. It usually happens at least once per build. At least thread is cheap.

What do you mean by this? Wrapping all the way up to the end? I stop about 1/8" from the very end to give the varnish some room to taper down. Yes I use varnish (usually 10-12 coats) and not epoxy. I dont mind the extra time for better control of the finished look.
I wrap ferrules with the same color scheme as guide wraps. Meaning if I use trim bands on the guides I put trim bands on the ferrules to match. Trim bands near the edge of the ferrule is probably the most difficult part of wrap for me, but I think it looks more consistant. Same scheme goes for winding check and hook keeper(if added).
