My son and I enrolled in a class locally, and it was a huge help. There are a lot of details that I never thought about, like adding more wraps in places to keep things straight on a wet fly, one simple half hitch here or there to avoid materials coming loose. In addition, you sometimes see two people use different approaches to produce the same fly - then you can apply the method that suits you best. Once some of it becomes second nature, it makes what you see on on-line videos a lot simpler.
