Thread: Better than TFO fore the same price?

Default Better than TFO fore the same price?

Redington CPS is the rod that TFO TiCR X should be compared with. They coast nearly the same.

What is your opinion on these two roods?
Which one do you think is better?

If I am buying a new rod it matters little what others think.

One of the things I like about the Redington rods is they are light in weight. This makes them a lot more comfortable to cast all day. There is a big difference in weight in the models with aluminun seats and fighting butts. Even in the lower wt rated rods the Redingtons are lighter with a wood reel seat than the comparable TFO models that have a graphite seat.

I have not tried the Redington, but I really do like my 6wt TFO TiCr. It is a really sweet casting rod and I would say the action is just a bit under what I would call fast. As far as the weight goes, I've cast it all day for bass and not worn out the ole arm.

    flyfisherjoe,

Can you back up the comparison?

"Even in the lower wt rated rods the Redingtons are lighter with a wood reel seat than the comparable TFO models that have a graphite seat."

    Just curious.

    Hi Gudmgu,
My bone with the TFO's I've owned was with the grade of cork. I'd be willing to go up some in price if they'd address that issue, especially on the Pro models. So where would you put CPS cork quality, in comparison to that of any of the TFO models?

    Buzz,
Re: "If I am buying a new rod it matters little what others think."
Granted that's you, but then why post on, or read bulletin boards at all? Should we confine our conversations only to techniques and the weather?

Since I tend to buy several rods a year ( because I enjoy doing so ), I often sell off those that no longer interest me and use the proceeds from their sales to in part finance the new purchases.
What others think of the rods that I've bought, or am considering buying, matters a great deal when it comes to their resale value.
With all due respect, there's more to be gleaned here than our own idea's.

    Best, Dave

I own a redington 9' 6wt cps and light weight is the first word that comes to mind. The rod is a fast action rod and the it dampens very well after unloading. While it is fast it also has a progressive aspect to the rod as you load it more deeply. The fit and finish are also very good. It is a delight to cast.
Ladyfisher unknowingly cast a 10' CPS
in one of her fairly recent stories and did'nt realize it was'nt a 9' rod
    From their respective web sights
    CPS 9' 6 wt 3.4oz
    Ticrx 9' 6wt 3.8 oz

In all fairness to TFO, okflyfisher's numbers have a typo.

    The actual weight comparison is:

Redington CPS 9' 6 wt with wood insert reel seat = 3.4 oz

Temple Fork TiCr X 9' 6 wt with braided graphite insert reel seat = 3.8 oz

That makes the TFO model about 12% heavier even with the lighter insert.

A much greater difference can be seen in the higher wt rods with aluminum reel seats and fighting butts:

    Redington CPS 9' 8 wt = 3.6 oz

    TFO TiCr X 9' 8 Wt = 5.4 oz

As JC said, it will be best to try them both before making a final decision.

I thought I had corrected it once but evidently didn't re-submit it correctly
