    Default Saltwater rods

Besides the reel seat, are there other differences between a saltwater and freshwater rod? Will I permanently harm my freshwater rod by using it in salt?

According to the Sage representative I spoke with you can use any rod in saltwater safely as long as you rinse it all down good with fresh water (garden hose) after each use. There are also people that use this approach for reels, but I'm not confident enough to try that.

"Don't use any reels or rods that have components made out of magnesium in saltwater" was some of the advice I got years ago. Take the #6 weight to the beach & as long as it gets a shower in freshwater & dryed after each outing it still works the next time out
