I have been out a couple of times this past month when the sun warmed up to about 50 degrees, but just couldn't seem to find any of those holdovers from last stocking season. Then this weekend when the weatherman was talking 40s, I headed out to one of the local county parks to see what I could find there. The water was murky, and the water level seemed a little low, but I gave it the shot anyway. Tried a couple of holes without any luck, slipping and sliding from one to another. Every few minutes I had to knock the ice out of the guides on the pole (the weatherman was wrong!!) On the third hole, I tied on a small gray wooly bugger and tossed it out. On about the 3rd or 4th toss, the line went straight and I felt it hit. It was a nice 14 inch rainbow. It was good to feel that rush again. Looking forward to many more trips in the coming months.
