I got into a few of these toothy critters lately too. I generally do use hooks when I fish for them because I hate it when something else big jumps on the rope fly and there is nothing you can do about it. I like using long articulated flies and a low sideways hookset seems to work best for me. I got this one Sunday on the Caney Fork while trout fishing. We saw a bunch of them together up at the surface and broke out the streamer rods on them.
