Default Westport MA / Horseneck Beach

Can anyone help?? I'll be in the Westport area off and on over the next few weeks. Tips on where to wade fish the Horseneck Beach area needed. I am somewhat familiar with the beach and inlet and the marina on the backside of the beach/dunes but have never cast a fly here. It would seem that this is primetime for striper action????

    Thanks

I haven't fished there in years, but besides the river/backside I'd recommend the island to the east side of the beach.
Not easy to fly fish, but the rip of the conflicting currents at the southern tip is outstanding
    And yes... it's now primetime

The island to the east is Goosebury Island. Just drive south past the Horseneck Beach parking areas and bear right at the end. They close the gate to the island at dusk. Good luck!

Watch out for the ticks in the grass in those areas. Especially Gooseberry!

Don't discount fishing the river. There is excellent fishing there. See if you can work your way to the flat that is left of the bridge (as you go towards the beach) near the grass flat. You will probably have a better shot at finding fish in the river than you will in the ocean this time of the year (or maybe not...one never knows until they get there).

You might want to consider renting a kayak or a canoe and heading upriver. There are lots of great banks to fish.

If you do get a yak or a canoe you are not that far from the Slocum River which is also a fine place to fish for our striped friends......
