Adding energy to cast

I was reading about the distance casts, and it made me think - I was watching the TU program, and Smethursts casts have so much "energy" in them. Mine just kind of flutter out there, and the farther they go the more "limp" they are. Is there a quick fix for this, or just practice, practice, practice? My backcasts have more energy than the forward cast, and I'd like my cast to hit fly first, not last. I asked a casting instructor about that and they said you can't do that. None of the videos I've watched address this exactly.

You may need to work on your loop control and the double haul, with that you can perform the manuver your looking for. It can be done, but you said you lack power on your forward presentation. In short without better control of the line speed and path the instructior may be right, perhaps he felt you wernt ready.

Probably is a matter of your casting mechanics, however you may want to try a new leader. You hit the nail on the head with your question, it is important that the energy generated in the line, gets efficiently transferred into and thru your leader.

One other tackle related factor, some rods release energy faster and hence generate more line speed. Some people like that, some don't. All depends on what you like.

Stopping the rod makes the line go...
If you use your biceps to stop the rod on the backcast, good.
Use it to stop your rod on the forward cast too.
The casting instructor said what? "and they said you can't do that" ?
Uh,,, you 'are' stopping your rod. Right?
