We use a lot of tubes for all kinds of fishing and they have a lot of advantages, especially with toothy fish. We fish in water a lot deeper than we want to most of the time and pay a lot of attention to the sink rates to match flies with lines. If one sinks faster than the other it creates slack in the system which makes it easy to miss strikes.

One of the biggest advantages to tubes and even Waddingtons is the hooks you get to use, short shank and sharp! Changing them is a snap when they dull and with the short shanks far fewer hooked fish are lost.

I use a lot of Clousers and catch a lot of fish on them, but have never tied them as tubes... And see no good reason to...

Bunny tube flies should be in your box... They are far tougher than other fluff materials and slay fish...
